Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, says that AI will have a big effect on India’s GDP. He also says that Microsoft will teach more than two million Indians AI.

Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO of Microsoft, talked about three important things for AI today and how India was set up to get the most out of it. “This is the most exciting time for AI in the world, and India is a huge opportunity,” he said at the CEO Connection event for the company in Mumbai.

He said that Microsoft would teach two million Indians AI skills and that this would bring well-paying jobs to rural India and open up a huge economic change. “I really haven’t seen anything quite like AI, and it will only continue to scale up from here,” he told us.

He chose two big changes in AI: one was making computers that understand us, and the other was digitising everything. “We see digitization having an impact on GDP and eventually on the long-term India story.”

He thinks there will be three imperatives that are very important for business results. The first is the use of copilots.

“It makes me think of the early days of personal computers, and I think AI is a lot like that.” He thought that the PC gave us easy access to information and that AI would give us knowledge. Of course, AI can do a lot more than that, especially in areas like sales, supply chain, and the law. “It is the greatest silo breaker of all time.”

The next part has to do with the Copilot stack. Even though there is a lot of promise, the problems must not be ignored.

“We need to compress the next 250 years of chemistry into the next 25 years,” stated Nadella. That’s where AI plays a very important role. His mind went back to a recent talk, and he chose an example of how the lithium content in a battery could be cut by 70%. “We are at a point where the fundamental frontiers of science are being changed.”

When it comes to AI, trust, and protection are the most important things to think about. “Globally, we will see many models emerging and each country will need to choose their approach.”
